Official Import Rules

Sweden follows EU pet regulations with strict enforcement. From EU countries: EU Pet Passport with ISO microchip and valid rabies vaccination. From listed third countries: health certificate (form E9.207 or equivalent), microchip, and rabies vaccination. From non-listed third countries: FAVN titer test with 3-month wait additionally required. All dogs must be reported to Swedish Customs (Tullverket) on arrival. Direct entry from non-EU countries is only permitted via Arlanda (Stockholm) or Landvetter (Gothenburg) airports. Sweden strongly recommends Echinococcus tapeworm treatment for dogs though it is no longer mandatory. Updated movement requirements for pets travelling to and within the EU apply from 22 April 2026. For entries from 22 April 2026 onward, health certificate E9.207 must be issued within 10 days before the animal arrives at the EU Entry Point; once stamped at the Entry Point, the certificate is valid for onward travel within the EU for up to 6 months from the stamp date, or until the rabies vaccination stated in the certificate expires, whichever comes first.

Carry originals, confirm airline pet acceptance, and keep the official authority page saved offline.

Breed & Public-Space Rules

Breed restrictions

No breed ban — Swedish law targets dangerous individual dogs rather than breeds. Note Sweden dropped its old tapeworm entry requirement; don't copy it over from historic guides.

Vets & Health After Arrival

Excellent veterinary infrastructure. Sweden's animal welfare standards are among the highest globally. Emergency vet clinics available 24/7 in major cities. Pet insurance is extremely common in Sweden — consider getting it.

Leaving Sweden With Your Dog

EU Pet Passport for EU travel. For non-EU destinations, a health certificate from an Official Veterinarian. Order the E9.207 form from Jordbruksverket before travel. The Swedish Board of Agriculture also maintains mandatory dog and dog registers — your dog must be registered within 4 weeks of arrival.
