Cambodia

Official Import Rules

Cambodia requires a current rabies vaccination and a veterinary health certificate endorsed by the origin country's competent authority. Requirements can be inconsistently enforced — bring comprehensive documentation to be safe. A microchip is recommended. Contact MAFF (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries) in advance for current requirements. Arrival through Phnom Penh (PNH) or Siem Reap (REP) airports.

1

Microchip

ISO 11784/11785 microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination. The microchip number must match every certificate.

Rabies vaccination

Rabies vaccination must be valid before travel. Most routes require at least 21 days after a primary vaccination.

3

Health certificate or pet passport

Use an EU pet passport where accepted, or a government-endorsed animal health certificate for this route.

4

Travel day

Carry originals, confirm airline pet acceptance, and keep the official authority page saved offline.

City & Housing Notes

Phnom Penh and Siem Reap are the main expat hubs. Cambodia has a growing digital nomad community. Pet culture is developing. Vet care is basic but improving. Very affordable living costs.

Vets & Health After Arrival

Basic veterinary care in Phnom Penh with a few international-standard clinics. Outside Phnom Penh, vet care is very limited. Rabies is endemic — vaccination essential. For serious medical issues, Bangkok (Thailand) is the nearest advanced option.

Leaving Cambodia With Your Dog

Exit requirements are informal. A health certificate from a local vet is recommended. For travel to Thailand or Vietnam, check those countries' specific import requirements carefully.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Cambodia easy for pet imports?

Relatively yes. Requirements are straightforward, enforcement is relaxed, and there's no mandatory quarantine.

Is vet care available?

Basic care in Phnom Penh. A few good clinics exist, some run by international vets. Bangkok is 1 hour by air for advanced care.

Is Cambodia safe for dogs?

Keep dogs indoors. Rabies is endemic, traffic is chaotic, and stray animal populations are large. Indoor dogs do well in Phnom Penh apartments.

Community Tips & Nearby Routes

Community reports are useful for practical details such as which cargo desk answers the phone, how long collection took, or whether a landlord asked for insurance. Treat them as tips, then verify rules with the authority and airline.
